Descriptive Essay
This winter break was the first time i stayed home in 5 years. Normally, I'd go to mexico with my mom and brother. I love visting mexico and going
for the break. In my opinion its the best vacationing spot.
I love waking up on the countryside hearing the sweet silence of nothing but quiet footsteps wondering off into the distance. the chearping of
birds outside my window as i'd lay there in the darkness gathering my thoughts would comfort me. When id finally get up from my bed i'd open my window
and id be hit from the bright warm rays of sunlight. Id feel a great warm feeling in my heart, and i'd know i was free.
This year i stayed home, i basically tried to hibernate throughout the whole break. i would wake up around 10 o'clock which was my ideal time of
waking up. the best feeling was not having to set my alarm for the next morning. When i would wake up id think ofthe quote "Hustle until you dont have to
set the alarm". Waking up was a real struggle, my house is generally warm during the winter but this year it was freezing. At times my toes would go numb, id
shiver in my bed even when i had 2 new and warm, fluffy blankets on me.
I'd rise from my bed just to get some food in my system. After eating i'd lounge around my house trying to find a warm spot, at times i'd cuddle with mom. My father and I hate the cold with a passion, my mom can stand it she likes to feel the cold breeze. i just look at her as if shes crazy.
On the day before christmas eve, my family and I recieved news that my uncle Max whom ive never met was coming for the holidays. It was pretty exciting knowing that id finally get to meet him. He's 10 years older than my father so theyre not so fairly close as i expected, he lives in chicago with his wife.
I never really knew much about him so i had no expectations what so ever.
On new years eve, I finally met my uncle max. My aunt emily brought him and his wife over in the morning. I was in my room trying to cleaning up folding my blankets and picking up my dirty clothes from the floor, when i heard my father laughing and my aunt emily's voice. At that moment i knew my uncle max was with them, i ran outside trying to get ahold of my emotions and i stepped out and saw him for the first time. It wa A strange feeling meeting an estranged
family member. He was fairly tall, light complection with fuzz on his cheeks and was wearing a los angeles dodgers cap. The recembalance caught me by surprise he looked like a mixture of both my father and my uncle adolfo at that moment i definately knew he was family.
We greeted them and invited them to breakfast. they ate and got adjusted. They began catching up and talking about there flight and how the climate in chicago is very differnet from california. Moments later we were all taking pictures and having the siblings posing with their brother. later in on the conversation and fun my aunt emily invited us to her home for a christmas dinner.
Christmas day, we all stayed in the house, drinking warm, tastey mexican fruit punch. Around 5 we all began getting ready to head out to my aunties party. All of my dads side of the family was gathering together, to meet my uncle max and celebrate chirstmas together. as soon as we got there, we began greeting all of our aunts, uncles and cousins. There was so much food at the party. there was ham, tamales, posole, champurado and some more punch. we were all having a great time we ended up leaving at 12 oclock.
The next day we went over to my uncle paco's home around 10 in the morning. We are more family oriented on my mom side of the family than my dads side. well at his house we ate more tamales and had some conchitas with canela and of course we had more fruit punch. his home was alot warmer than our home so we stayed there for quiete awhile. After eating everyone started getting comfortable on the couch and started napping trying to get some sleep since the night before was lots of fun while the rest of us continued talking and laughing. we left his house around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. and once we got home we all watched a movie and fell asleep.
New years eve, we celebrated at our home. I layed in my bed all day trying to stay warm when i wasnt cleaning or doing chores. we threw the small gathering in the backyard. my uncle paco came with his son abraham and my cousin with his wife and children also arrived. That night was freezing i remember it quiete well, the wind was extremley cold. I could feel the wind going threw my clothes peircing my skin. We had carne asada and other side dishes along with that. After eating we imediately when inside and had a cup of fruit punch or canela and sat around watching tv. the gathering ended early around 9 since we were all sleepy.
New years day, we went over to my uncle adolfos house in rialto. All of my dads side of the family ended showing up. Even my cousins who were in town from las vegas came to the gathering. We stayed there the whole day from 10 in the morning till 11 at night, enjoying eachothers company. food wise we had tacos in the moning and snacked the whole day and had plenty of canela and fruit punch. when your with family and friends and youre really enjoying yourself sometimes you forget to eat or even get hungry at all. At night my uncle started the grill and we had carne asada. I stayed inside with the woman and children while the men were outside staying warm by the chimney. at the end of the night my dad didnt even want to leave. it was so had getting him to agree with us it was time to go home. eventually we convinced him and went home, once i got home i buried myself in my bed and knocked out.
Staying home for once was nice, i enjoyed the get togethers we had although it was extremly cold. I still miss mexicos warm sun, i hope to go for next winter break. Overall i enjoyed my winter break here at home, it was nice and different for once.
